Course details

This course is ideal for those working in low-hazard environments, such as a shop or office. It is also suitable for organisations whose first aid needs assessment identifies the need for somebody trained in emergency first aid.

Course content

This one day course covers a range of CPR and first aid skills, providing people with the skills to ensure a safe working environment. The emergency first aid at work course gives learners the skills and confidence to respond to a range of first aid emergencies they could encounter in the workplace including:

  • Understanding the role and responsibilities of a first aider
  • How to manage an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally including the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • How to manage a casualty who is in shock
  • How to assess an incident
  • How to recognise and assist a casualty who is choking
  • How to manage a casualty with a minor injury
  • How to manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally
  • How to manage a casualty with external bleeding

Learning process

The course offers a practical, hands-on approach to use first aid skills in a real life situation. Those taking the course will have plenty of opportunities to practise each skill covered by the course and build confidence in their first aid skills.

Each learner is assessed throughout the course using a range of practical demonstrations, question and answer sessions, quizzes and engaging activities designed to coach and support them.

Qualification

CIEH Level 2 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)

The award is valid for three years as of the date of assessment.

The qualification is approved by Ofqual, the regulator of qualifications, examinations and assessments in England. The qualification is valid for three years, making it suitable for all industries and enabling you to meet HSE requirements.
